When Crosby Square hired us to reintroduce their heritage brand of men’s high-end footwear, we immediately knew we’d draw on the brand’s storied past. The original company was founded in 1867 and was flourishing by the 1930s, but a shift away from dress shoe popularity dried up business in the 1970s and production ended. New ownership purchased the brand and relaunched in 2015. To bring the brand back to life, we focused on Crosby Square’s authentic heritage.

ADS THROUGH THE DECADES

The CEO of Crosby Square has been collecting decades of dress shoe memorabilia, old ads from Esquire and Playboy, and countless vintage shoes since purchasing the brand. We mined his collection for visual cues that we could instill into a modern shoe brand.

LAUNCH COLLECTION CAMPAIGN

High-quality Goodyear Welted models, Crosby Square’s flagship shoes, comprised the Launch Collection. For the lookbook photography, we utilized mirrors to manipulate the compositions—the present reflects the past. We produced the shoot in Palm Springs to make use of its classic, breezy elegance and hired photographer Geordy Pearson.

FALL 2015 CAMPAIGN

The Fall 2015 collection debuted Crosby Square’s Blake Construction models. Because they appeal to a slightly different demographic and would appear on the website alongside the Launch Collection, the Blake Construction shoes required a distinct yet familiar creative direction. We emphasized the silhouettes of the shoes by shooting them against unique textures and stills from vintage ads blown up. These were also shot on location in Palm Springs.

Everything scales down smoothly for ease of use with mobile devices.
